CBS Boston:  FBI Uses Chainsaw In Raid On Wrong Fitchburg Apartment (Jan 31 2012)

It’s going to be a while before things get back to normal for Judy Sanchez and her three-year-old daughter.

Last Thursday, a team of FBI agents swarmed her apartment building as part of a massive citywide drug and weapons gang raid.

Trouble is, Sanchez lives in apartment 2R.

The suspect they were after is in 2F.

At 6:04 last Thursday morning, just before Sanchez’ alarm was set to go off, she heard a pounding outside her second floor apartment.

“I just happened to glance over and saw this huge chainsaw ripping down the side of my door,” she explains. “And I was freaking out. I didn’t know what was going on.”

Within moments, the chainsaw had cut through most of her door, and someone on the FBI’s arrest team kicked the rest of it in.

“That’s when I heard the clicking of a gun and I heard ‘FBI, get down!’, so I laid right on down.

And they said get your dog, so I got her and at the same time I am laying in her urine because she did pee on herself at the same time.”

Sanchez says they left her on the floor for 35 minutes, with her daughter screaming for her mommy in the other room.

“I was told not to move, so I didn’t move,” she tells WBZ, out of fear that she’d be shot.

Eventually the feds figured out they were in the wrong spot and they arrested the suspect they were after in the next door apartment.

Sanchez can’t believe that a two-year long federal investigation ended at the wrong door.

35 minutes to realize they were in the wrong apartment?  Capping off a two-year investigation?

“I took two steps, face the second door, and I heard the click of a gun, and saying, ‘FBI, get down,’ so I laid down on my living room floor,” Judy Sanchez said.

Judy Sanchez described the terror she awoke to Thursday morning when FBI agents chain-sawed their way into her apartment during an early morning gang-related raid in Fitchburg.

“I was screaming, ‘You have the wrong apartment, you have the wrong apartment,’ over fifty times. And then I seen the big blade coming down my door,” Sanchez said.

Meanwhile, her 3-year-old daughter, Ji’anni, was crying hysterically in the other room, but the FBI wouldn’t let Sanchez move off the floor.

“It was very cold, doors were open, they wouldn’t let me get up to get my jacket or even so much as get my daughter. It was horrible,” said Sanchez.

A Massachusetts mother says the FBI used a chain saw blade to cut through her door and held her at gunpoint for at least 30 minutes before agents realized they were conducting a raid at the wrong home.

Judy Sanchez, of Fitchburg, says she awoke to heavy footsteps in the stairwell on Jan. 26 and walked into her kitchen in time to see a blade chop through her door.

“That’s when I heard the clicking of a gun and I heard ‘FBI, get down!’, so I laid right on down,” she told CBS station WBZ in Boston.

She told WBZ that she was held facedown on the floor for 35 minutes at gunpoint while her 3-year-old daughter cried in another room.

A Massachusetts woman says the FBI used a chain saw blade to cut through her door and held her at gunpoint for at least 30 minutes before agents realized they were conducting a raid at the wrong home.

It turns out agents were after the other tenant on the floor of the multi-unit building who was suspected of dealing drugs.

Appears to be just business as usual for the FBI’s thugs:

Sports-Telegram: Woman: Apology is not enough from FBI after botched raid in Fitchburg (Feb 2 2012)

In an interview at her apartment yesterday, Ms. Sanchez said that although it has been a week since the raid, she and her daughter find it hard to get it out of their minds. She sleeps with a baseball bat she got from her mother after the raid, and her daughter, Ji-anni, is traumatized. Whenever the child can, she avoids going near the door that was cut and broken into.

“Every time someone knocks, she runs and hides behind me,” she said. “And she says, ‘They’re going to knock the door down. They’re going to knock the door down.’ ”

A female assistant special agent in charge apologized and told her what she could do to get her door repaired. She said the response was cold and matter-of-fact.

“The mistake was quickly apparent to the FBI agents,” he said.

Quickly?  If it had been “quickly apparent”, your goons would not have terrorized the mother and her child for 30-35 minutes.

The FBI did not repair or replace the door. The landlord replaced the door and must also replace the door jam.

“I’m not doing this for 15 minutes of fame,” she said. “But this situation is not just a quick, ‘I’m sorry and good day.’ ”
